THE 'MINI' BOULE COURT/ HORSESHOE PIT
2018: Time for a bit of fun in the garden!

The main intention had been to level the next section of lawn, so we had a flatter area at the bottom end.
Another wall would have to be built, as the one already in place, was not very secure -
(though in places it was solid concrete!)

We had a large very over-grown bedding area, that was cumbersome to tend and I after measuring,
I found that even though it was not very wide, it should just be long enough for a Boule/Pétanque court.
(Hence why the path was taken up to the left hand corner of the shed, so it was as big as possible).

Whilst investigating how to go about this, I found that the measurements would also be adequate for
another outside game - 'Horseshoes' and that I could adapt the court for a 'horseshoe pit'.

I had extended the drainage under the bottom lawn, to continue going up the garden,
so I could link it to the Boule Court - thus preventing it becoming a pond!

Lots of digging and carrying dirt again, but at least this was for fun.
I built the cubby hole to store the Boule (and act as a drinks table),
with a corner raised bed, to eventually add a bit of colour in the corner.
I used 'door insulation' and rubber washers, to dampen the sound of Boule' hitting the wooden planks,
finished with some outside lighting (for evening play).
Our friend Alex (who joins us on our annual trip to France), bought us a plaque, which now sits on the wall.
PATIO 2/ THE LAWN
Wanting an area that could be used througout the year (fairly dry) and knowing
that the area behind the shed was a sun-trap in the evening, I decided on another small patio area.
It also helped in being able to level /get an easier slope on the lawn.
Thinking ahead, I would now have a path running from the bottom lawn to the shed and beyond,
which would allow me to get the mower on to both lawns, without breaking my back every time!
Level 3 complete.

I have promised myself, that only when I have finished the project,
we will be allowed to treat ourselves to some new furniture for this area!
(The other cubby hole will become self-explainitory at the 'finished stage') -
with the final pics - hopefully in 2021.
